"Conception" is a 1950 jazz standard. It was written by George Shearing.[1] . The score is in the Key of Db and is noticeable for its powerful chromatic descents involving Amaj7Abmaj7Ab-7 Db7 and under a repeating motif Bb7A7Ab7G7. The bridge as well has a chromatic half step repetition involving Ab-7Db7/G-7C7/ F#-7B7.There is a particularly beautiful leap from the 5th note of the Dbmaj7 to the 9th note of B7 . The original score has a complexity that matches most any artist interpretation. As a result, the song is challenging and less frequently played. .There is an excellent version by Bud Powell .
