DescriptionConostephium pendulum grows to a height of 1 metre or less, has oblong or linear leaves about 2.5 cm long and with a sharp point on the end. The flowers, which occur from June to September, are cream coloured with a red-purple tip, about 11 mm long, tubular in shape with the style protruding beyond the floral tube. The flowers hang individually from the leaf axils.[1]Taxonomy and namingThe species was named by George Bentham in 1837 in Enumeratio plantarum quas in Novae Hollandiae ora austro-occidentali ad fluvium Cygnorum et in sinu Regis Georgii collegit Carolus Liber Baro de Hügel from a specimen collected by Charles von Hügel.[1] It was the first species in the genus to be described.[2] The specific epithet is a latin word meaning "hanging down", "pendent" or "drooping".[3][4] Distribution and habitatConostephium pendulum occurs on sandy soils and is often associated with Banksia woodland, or in the northern part of it range with heath. It is the most widespread and common species of its genus being found in the Avon Wheatbelt, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah forest, Swan Coastal Plain and Warren biogeographic regions of Western Australia.[2][5]Propagation and cultivationThis species is not well known in cultivation but may respond to treatment similar to that for the closely related members of the family Ericaceae.[6] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Conostephium pendulum|url=https://biodiversity.org.au/boa/instance/apni/490894|publisher=APNI|accessdate=24 April 2015}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15374451}}2. ^1 {{cite journal|last1=Hislop|first1=Michael|title=A taxonomic update of Conostephium|journal=Nuytsia|date=2013|volume=23|pages=332–333}} 3. ^{{cite book|last1=Brown|first1=Roland Wilbur|title=The Composition of Scientific Words|date=1956|publisher=Smithsonian Institution Press|location=Washington, D.C.|page =395}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Conostephium pendulum|url=http://www.friendsofqueensparkbushland.org.au/conostephium-pendulum/|publisher=Friends of Queens Park Bushland|accessdate=11 January 2016}} 5. ^{{cite book|last1=Paczkowska|first1=Grazyna|last2=Chapman|first2=Alex R.|title=The Western Australian flora : a descriptive catalogue|date=2000|publisher=Wildflower Society of Western Australia|location=Perth|isbn=0646401009|pages=235}} 6. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Conostephium pendulum|url=http://anpsa.org.au/c-pen.html|publisher=Australian Native Plants Society Australia|accessdate=11 January 2016}} 5 : Styphelioideae|Eudicots of Western Australia|Ericales of Australia|Endemic flora of Western Australia|Plants described in 1837 |
