He resigned a few weeks before the expiration of his last term in office.[2] In 2014, he was elected a non-partisan position to the city council of Cedar Park in the Austin area. In 2018, after serving two terms on the council, he was elected as mayor, winning with 70% of the vote.[3] BackgroundA Dallas native, Van Arsdale, a fifth generation Texan, graduated from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas.[4] He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he lettered in baseball, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law.
