Its 25 schools serve 15,048 students as of the 2010–11 school year. Student demographicsFor the 2010–11 school year, Craven County Schools had a total population of 15,048 students and 957.89 teachers on a (FTE) basis. This produced a student-teacher ratio of 15.71:1. That same year, out of the student total, the gender ratio was 50% male to 50% female. The demographic group makeup was: White, 55%; Black, 30%; Hispanic, 8%; Asian/Pacific Islander, 3%; and American Indian, 1% (two or more races: 5%).[1] For the same school year, 54.78% of the students received free and reduced-cost lunches.[2] GovernanceThe primary governing body of Craven County Schools follows a council–manager government format with a seven-member Board of Education appointing a Superintendent to run the day-to-day operations of the system. The school system currently resides in the North Carolina State Board of Education's Second District.[3] Board of EducationThe seven members of the Board of Education generally meet on the third Thursday of each month. The current members of the board are: David Hale (Chair), II, Kim Smith (Vice-Chair), Frances H. Boomer, Beatrice Smith, Kim Smith, Stephanie A. King, Carroll G. Ipock, Joseph L. Walton.[4] SuperintendentMeghan S. Doyle has been the superintendent of the system since school year 2016.[5] Member schoolsCraven County Schools has 25 schools ranging from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. AwardsThe Craven County Schools system has had one school listed as a Blue Ribbon School: Arthur W.
