It is a Grade II* listed structure.[2] It is {{convert|1872|ft|m}} long and has 31 arches, each of {{convert|52|ft|m|adj=on}} span,[3] which reach a maximum height of {{convert|110|ft|m}} above the Crimple Valley. It was completed in 1848[4] to designs by George Hudson for the York and North Midland Railway company and built of rusticated grit stone ashlar.
