It is endemic to South Africa. TaxonomyCylindrophyllum comptonii is classified under the genus Cylindrophyllum. It belongs to the tribe Ruschiae, subfamily Ruschioideae of the family Aizoaceae.[1][2] It was first described by the South African botanist Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus in 1932.[3]DescriptionCylindrophyllum comptonii are small perennial succulent plant that form dense cushions. The plants grow up to about {{convert|13|cm|in|abbr=on}} high and {{convert|25|cm|in|abbr=on}} in diameter. They possess cylindrical leaves about {{convert|9|cm|in|abbr=on}} in length and {{convert|1|cm|in|abbr=on}} in diameter. The leaves are slightly flattened dorsoventrally with an indistinct central ridge and pointed tips.
