His parents grew up in Portugal. His father is Portuguese and his mother is South African. He has been to Portugal and once he went for trials there when he was younger.[2] Cardoso aspired to be a veterinarian. Cardoso dropped out of school in 2003 to play for Yebo Yes United in the Vodacom League earning R100,000 a month.[3] Club careerCardoso made his professional debut on 11 August 2012 in a 2–0 win over Bidvest Wits at Goble Park Stadium.[4] Cardoso was made vice-captain in 2014.
