Since May 2013, he has served as the Dean of Leicester. Early life and educationMonteith was born on 5 June 1968 in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.[1] He was educated at Portora Royal School, a grammar school in Enniskillen.[1] He studied zoology at the University of Durham, where he was a member of St John's College, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1989.[2][1] In 1990, Monteith entered St John's College, Nottingham, an Anglican theological college, to train for ordained ministry. During this time, he also studied theology at the University of Nottingham, and graduated with a Bachelor of Theology (BTh) degree in 1992.[2] He then studied for a Master of Arts (MA) degree in mission and ministry, completing it in 1993.[1] Ordained ministryMonteith was ordained in the Church of England as a deacon in 1993 and as a priest in 1994.[3] From 1993 to 1997, he served his curacy at All Saints' Church, Kings Heath in the Diocese of Birmingham.[2] He then joined the staff of St Martin-in-the-Fields, City of Westminster in the Diocese of London, where he was an assistant curate from 1997 to 2000 and an associate vicar from 2000 to 2002.[2][1] In 2002, Monteith moved to the Diocese of Southwark to become Priest-in-Charge of Holy Trinity Church, Wimbledon.[2] He was also Area Dean of Merton between 2004 and 2009.[1] In 2009, there was a reorganisation of parishes in the area and Holy Trinity joined with two other churches to form the Parish of Merton Priory.[4] Monteith served for a short time as the parish's Team Rector.[1] In 2009, Monteith moved to Leicester Cathedral, where he served as Canon Chancellor from 2009 to 2013.[2] On 18 May 2013, he was installed as Dean of the cathedral, and as such he is the most senior priest in the Diocese of Leicester.[2][5][6] Personal lifeIn 2008, Monteith entered into a civil partnership with David Hamilton.[2][7] In a short church biography, Monteith "shares his life in a Civil Partnership with David Hamilton."[8] References{{Portal|Anglicanism}}1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 {{Who's Who | surname = Monteith | othernames = David Robert Malvern | id = U258461 | volume = 2016 | edition = November 2015 online | accessed = 24 July 2016 }} {{s-start}}{{s-rel|en}}{{s-bef|before=Viv Faull}}{{s-ttl|title=Dean of Leicester|years=2013–present}}{{s-inc}}{{s-end}}{{Provosts and Deans of Leicester}}{{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Monteith, David Robert Malvern}}2. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{Crockford| surname = Monteith | forenames = David Robert Malvern | id = 15492 | accessed = 23 December 2015}} 3. ^Crockfords (London, Church House, 1995) {{ISBN|0-7151-8088-6}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=The Parish of Merton Priory|url=http://www.mertonprioryteam.org.uk/index_introduction.html|website=Merton Priory Team Ministry|accessdate=6 February 2017}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=David Monteith Installed as New Dean of Leicester|url=http://leicestercathedral.org/david-monteith-installed-as-new-dean-of-leicester/|website=Leicester Cathedral|accessdate=6 February 2017|date=6 January 2014}} 6. ^Diocese of Leicester – New Dean of Leicester announced {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130528191540/http://www.cathedral.leicester.anglican.org/documents/DeanPressRelease.pdf |date=2013-05-28 }} 7. ^{{cite web|last1=Monteith|first1=David|title=Dean’s Blog: On Not Taking Note and Dreaming Dreams|url=http://leicestercathedral.org/deans-blog-taking-note-dreaming-dreams/|website=Leicester Cathedral|accessdate=6 February 2017|date=1 February 2017}} 8. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org/event/autumn-lecture-series-reforming-marriage/|title=Autumn Lecture Series - Reforming Marriage - St Martin-in-the-Fields|work=St Martin-in-the-Fields|access-date=2018-01-30|language=en-GB}} 11 : 1968 births|People from Enniskillen|People educated at Portora Royal School|Alumni of St John's College, Durham|Provosts and Deans of Leicester|Living people|Alumni of St John's College, Nottingham|Alumni of the University of Nottingham|LGBT Anglican clergy|20th-century Anglican priests|21st-century Anglican priests |
