As of the 2015 census, it had a population of 27,400 and an area of {{convert|401.7|km2|adj=on}}.[1] It borders Pingjiang County in the north, Paibu Town of Jiangxi in the east, Zhangfang Town in the south, and Dahu Town in the west and southwest. HistoryAccording to the Total annals of the Qing Dynasty ({{zh|s=大清一统志|l=|labels=no}}), the name of Daweishan derives from the view of the town shrouded by mountains. In 1995, the Zhongyue Township ({{zh|s=中岳乡|l=|labels=no}}) and former Daweishan Township ({{zh|s=大围山乡|l=|labels=no}}) merged to form the Daweishan Town. In 2005, Baisha Township ({{zh|s=白沙乡|l=|labels=no}}) was merged into the town. Administrative divisionsThe town is divided into 10 villages and 2 communities, the following areas:
GeographyThe Daxi River ({{zh|s=大溪河|l=|labels=no}}) flows through the town. There are a number of popular mountains located immediately adjacent to the townsite which include Mount Qixingling ({{zh|s=七星岭|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|1607.9|m|adj=on}}); Mount Baimianshi ({{zh|s=白面石|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|1215.6|m|adj=on}}); Mount Chongtian Lazhu ({{zh|s=冲天蜡烛|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|841|m|adj=on}}); Mount Lingpai ({{zh|s=灵牌山|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|727|m|adj=on}}); Mount Diaoshuijian ({{zh|s=吊水尖|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|839.2|m|adj=on}}); and Mount Wangpojian ({{zh|s=王婆尖|l=|labels=no}}, {{convert|951|m|adj=on}}).
