}}Dawn Ng is an artist from Singapore.[1][2][3][4] She studied studio art and journalism at Georgetown University and the UCL Slade School of Fine Art and works across a breadth of media ranging from collage, photography, illustration, light, and installations. She is represented by Chan Hampe Galleries, Singapore.[5]

She is most well known for her ubiquitous Walter series [6] that was acquired by the Singapore Art Museum and Sixteen that was exhibited at the inaugural Art Basel Hong Kong.

In 2015 her work was included in Open Sea at the Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon, an exploration of the contemporary art scene of Southeast Asia with a major focus on Singapore.[7]

In 2016 Dawn inaugurated the opening of Aloft at Hermès as the store reopened in Liat Towers, Singapore.[8]

Selected Exhibitions

2015, A Thing of Beauty,[9] Art Paris Art Fair

The photographic series A Thing of Beauty captures installations of small, locally sourced objects, collected from a range of stores in residential Singapore – from bakeries to convenience stores.[10][11][12][13][14]

2013, Sixteen,[15] Art Basel Hong Kong

Sixteen is an installation of 16 wooden chests built in a spectrum of colors. These chests are crafted to resemble treasure boxes, which fit one inside the other — the largest, the size of an oversized antique travel trunk, down to the smallest, the size of a musical box. Each chest is labeled both on the outside and on the inside with brass-engraved plaques, whose texts relate to the colour of it.[16][17][18]

2012, Everything You Ever Wanted Is Right Here,[19] Chan Hampe Galleries, Singapore

Everything You Ever Wanted is Right Here is a series of handcrafted photographic collages. The work is a tongue-in-cheek visual documentary of contemporary Singapore, constructed over a 4-month period of photographic documentation and interviews with locals. By slicing words through large scale photographs, the collages expose the cultural sentiments bubbling beneath one the world’s most highly case-studied cities, as it tells the ongoing story of a country "in-the making".

2011, Walter, Singapore Art Museum

This series of photographs by Dawn Ng features a curious colossal bunny named Walter that pops up across Singapore’s standard landscape of flats and heartland enclaves. By placing Walter at various spots in Singapore and photographing these interesting scenarios in which the giant rabbit contrasts with his environment, the artist encourages people to re-examine overlooked places, local sites, and sights.
