Dalla Valle began his mining career at BHP in underground coal mining in the Illawarra region of New South Wales as a 17 year old electrical apprentice.[2] After twenty years in coal he moved to the Pilbara in Western Australia where he was Vice President of Ports for West Australian Iron Ore (WAIO).[3] Other positions Dalla Valle held at BHP included Asset President of Cannington in Queensland, Asset President of Olympic Dam in South Australia and President of the Coal division based in Brisbane.[4] Dalla Valla was made redundant in 2017 after brief stints in corporate roles.
