}}D'Enforcas is a Canadian Soca DJ group based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It consists of two members: Bass Line and Marly Marl. The group is also a member of The Heavy Hitters DJs.[1][2]

Career

Biography

The group was founded in 1994 by Bass Line and Stryka. Bass Line's musical influence comes from his father, who was the radio announcer for a Caribbean show on, and now works behind the scenes at CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).[1][1] Stryka left the group a few years later and became webmaster for the Caribbean entertainment and social networking website, Islandmix.com. A short time before Stryka left, they recruited Marly Marl to D'Enforcas. Marly's influence also comes from his father, pioneer Soca DJ BAD LAD.[1][1] Bass Line & Marly Marl first met in Bad Lad's house where Bass Line would frequently shop for records. DJ Bad Lad later opened a record store in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, a suburb of Toronto.

The duo went on to help make Soca music mainstream and change the landscape of Toronto's urban nightlife scene; coining the term "Resident Soca DJ".[2][1] Since 1998 they have held successful resident DJ spots at some of the cities weekly parties in such clubs as Tonic, The Guvernment, Karma, Budo, Fluid, Seven, Jade, Steam, Rumours, Club 26, Essence, Escape & IT nightclub to name a few.[2][1]

They are also known for doing large scale urban events hosted by celebrities such as: the DEF JAM Party with Big Tigger (from BET), Vince Carter's Birthday Gala, Bass Line and Morris Peterson's Birthday Collaboration, The 112/Jagged Edge Party, DMX's Quadruple platinum party, Shaquille O'Neal's Victory Bash, BET/Hot 97 Party @ The Guvernment and the Flipmode Squad Party.[2][1]

D'Enforcas have also opened for Hip Hop, R&B, Soca & Dancehall acts such as: Lauryn Hill, Destiny's Child, Nas, Buju Banton, Ciara, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, Jaheim, Mobb Deep, Slum Village, Machel Montano, Freeway, Ideal, Doug E. Fresh, Bilal, Wu-Tang Clan, Dwele, Young Bloodz, Hi-Tek, Avant[2][1] and Ryan Leslie.

The sound started to get double and triple booked on some nights and in 2006, International Soca artist/producer Kerwin DuBois joined D'Enforcas as the crew's 3rd DJ to help with the increased number of events. DuBois brought a new element to the sound - production. Bass Line & Kerwin went on to make a few unofficial remixes, which they played in the clubs where they performed. In 2008, Kerwin DuBois left the group, and they recruited Mejustik (aka Gadget) to take his place as the 3rd member. Mejustik also comes from a musical family background. He started his DJ career playing alongside his uncle, one of Canada's pioneer Soca dj's from group "Maceo" since the age of 12.[2][1] He graduated from Harris Institute for the Arts' Producing/Engineering Program (PEP) in 2006. Mejustik became the Engineering specialist of D'Enforcas.[2][1]

In January 2012, D'Enforcas were officially asked by DJ Enuff from New York City (best known as the Official Tour DJ for Notorious B.I.G.) to join The Heavy Hitter DJ family. D'Enforcas are the first DJs in Canada and the first Soca DJs in the world to be asked to join the Heavy Hitters.[3][4] Today, D'Enforcas continue to tour the world and promote Caribbean culture.

Media

D'Enforcas have also made media appearances on SYNERGY TV (Trinidad), MUCH MUSIC (Da Mix, Down Lo), BET, NRG Radio (Finland), WNYC (New York City), CHIN-FM, CIUT-FM, CKUT-FM (Montreal), CHRY-FM, WBLK (Buffalo), CJAM (Windsor), CKLN-FM, BBC radio (England), CKFG-FM 98.7 and FLOW 93.5 (Live-to-airs).[2][1]

From 2007-2008, Mejustik had an Internet Radio show on Globe-Radio.com called "Unleashed Mixshow". In 2008, D'Enforcas (Bass Line & Marly) started a show on the same Internet station, called "The Winery". When Mejustik joined the sound, they merged the two shows to form "Unleash de Winery". The show now airs Saturdays on myradiolive.com.[1]

In 2009, they started a Syndicated Radio show called "The Hitmaker Show", which played on TEMPO RADIO 94.4 FM IN LONDON, UK, CARIBBEAN NITRO RADIO 101.7 FM in NEW YORK and SOCA JAM 101.1 FM in Miami, Florida.[1] The show no longer airs.

On December 4, 2011, they started "Soak in the Soca" on commercial radio station CHIN 100.7FM in Toronto.[3][4][5][6] This show is now simulcast on the station, and on Internet Radio station teamsoca.com.[7]

Production

In 2009, Bass Line & Mejustik started producing remixes for Soca music. Their first remix was for Machel Montano and Umi Marcano. The remix was featured on the album "Machel Montano Presents The HD Family".[1] They went on to produce official remixes for artistes such as Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons, Shal Marshall,[2] and Young Voice to name a few.
