It is in Zone A.[1] The station is named after Diego de León street, which is named after the 19th-century Spanish military and political figure Diego de León. HistoryThe station was inaugurated on 17 September 1932 as part of a branch line of Line 2 that ran from Diego de León to Goya, where it connected to the rest of Line 2. The branch was considered to be part of Line 2 until 1958, when it was transferred to Line 4. In 1970, Line 5 was extended to Diego de León. The Line 5 platforms under Juan Bravo street were inaugurated on 26 February, and service began on 2 March.[2][3][4] On 26 March 1973, Diego de León ceased to be a terminus station for Line 4 when the line was extended to Alfonso XIII. On 10 October 1979, the first stretch of Line 6 from Pacífico to Cuatro Caminos was inaugurated, including a stop at Diego de León.[5] References1. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.metromadrid.es/en/viaja_en_metro/red_de_metro/estaciones/index.html | title=Stations | publisher=Madrid Metro | work=Travel in the Metro | accessdate=9 January 2015}} {{Madrid Metro station|line4=yes|line5=yes|line6=yes}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Diego de Leon (Madrid Metro)}}{{Spain-railstation-stub}}{{Madrid-metro-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Portada del ABC del día 26 February 1970|trans-title=ABC front page 26 February 1970|url=http://hemeroteca.abc.es/nav/Navigate.exe/hemeroteca/madrid/abc/1970/02/26/001.html|access-date=17 July 2014|website=ABC|date=26 February 1970|language=Spanish}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Viaje inaugural|trans-title=Inaugural trip|url=http://hemeroteca.abc.es/nav/Navigate.exe/hemeroteca/madrid/abc/1970/02/27/007.html|access-date=17 July 2014|website=ABC|date=27 February 1970|language=Spanish}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=El Ministro de Obras Públicas inaugura la nueva línea del Metro Callao-Ventas|trans-title=Minister of Public Works inaugurates new Metro line Callao-Ventas|url=http://hemeroteca.abc.es/nav/Navigate.exe/hemeroteca/madrid/abc/1970/02/27/045.html|access-date=17 July 2014|website=ABC|date=27 February 1970|language=Spanish}} 5. ^{{cite web|website=El País|title=El Rey inauguró la nueva línea de Metro entre Pacífico y Cuatro Caminos|language=Spanish|trans-title=King inaugurates new Metro line between Pacífico and Cuatro Caminos|url=http://elpais.com/diario/1979/10/11/madrid/308492658_850215.html|access-date=7 March 2014|date=11 October 1979}} 3 : Madrid Metro stations|Railway stations opened in 1932|1932 establishments in Spain |
