The species is a prostrate or erect shrub up to 1.5 metres in height. The small, twisted, linear leaves are 3–8 mm long.[1] The "pea" flowers appear in terminal clusters of 1 to 8 flowers in spring. These are followed by 5–7 mm long pods with smooth seed.[1] The species was formally described by botanist Allan Cunningham in 1825 based on plant material collected from hills near Bathurst, New South Wales.[2] Dillwynia phylicoides occurs in dry forest and woodland in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria.[1][2]References1. ^1 2 {{NSW Flora Online|genus=Dillwynia|species=phylicoides|author=P.H.
