The office is assisted by a deputy director-general who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation. The NCA is not directly part of the Home Office allowing the director-general to make full decisions on the operations it undertakes, however the director-general reports to and is appointed by the Home Secretary.[2] The current director-general is Lynne Owens, and the role of deputy director-general is shared between Matthew Horne and Dr Nina Cope, with Horne dealing with matters of Operations and Cope with Capabilities.[3] Owens was announced as the successor to Keith Bristow in November 2015, and took up the role on 4 January 2016.[4] NCA Directors-General
