He went on to play non-League football for Whitby Town.[2] Life and careerBurluraux was born in Skelton, which was then in the North Riding of Yorkshire,[2] the son of Fred Burluraux, who had a brief professional career with Hartlepools United in the 1930s.[3] He played youth football for Staithes Juniors before signing for Middlesbrough. He made his first-team debut in the 1970–71 Football League season, but after just five Second Division matches, he suffered badly torn ankle ligaments.[4] After a brief spell on loan at York City, Burluraux signed for Fourth Division club Darlington. He was the club's player of the year in his first season, and played more than 100 times over three seasons, but the damage to his ankle forced his retirement from professional football at the age of 24.[4] He played for Northern League club Whitby Town until at least 1980,[5] and was player-manager in the 1978–79 season.[6] After finishing with football, Burluraux worked for ICI as a quality control laboratory analyst, managed Redcar tourist information office, and acted as co-ordinator of a "walking for health" scheme for his local healthcare trust.[7][8] Between 1999 and 2007 Burluraux ran the "North York Moors CAM" website which contains dozens of illustrated walks in and around the North York Moors.[9] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/UI/Person.aspx?oid=3795 |title=Don Burluraux |website=In The Mad Crowd |publisher=John Phillips |date=1 August 2014}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite web |url=http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/player7/donburluraux.html |title=Don Burluraux |work=Post War English & Scottish Football League A–Z Players Database |publisher=Neil Brown |accessdate=1 August 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/UI/Person.aspx?oid=95 |title=Fred Burluraux |website=In The Mad Crowd |publisher=John Phillips |date=1 August 2014}} 4. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/archive/2006/02/20/7157384.Don_gets_Boro_off_backside/ |title=Don gets Boro off backside |newspaper=The Northern Echo |location=Darlington |date=20 February 2006 |accessdate=1 August 2014 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140808062923/http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/archive/2006/02/20/7157384.Don_gets_Boro_off_backside/ |archivedate=8 August 2014 |df=dmy-all }} 5. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.whitby-town.com/results_mysql.php |title=Full season by season results |work=Whitby Town FC History |first=Neil |last=Thaler |publisher=Whitby Town F.C |accessdate=1 August 2014 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140808052916/http://www.whitby-town.com/results_mysql.php |archivedate=8 August 2014 |df=dmy-all }} 6. ^{{cite web |url=http://whitbytownhistory.blogspot.co.uk/p/managers.html |title=Managers |work=Whitby Town FC History |publisher=Neil Thaler |accessdate=1 August 2014}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/pressrel.nsf/published/91f296bc01286bd580256c8a004cd8dc |title=Don's back in training... to welcome visitors |publisher=Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council |date=9 December 2002 |accessdate=1 August 2014}} 8. ^{{cite web |url=http://southtees.nhs.uk/news/services/healthy-walks-in-the-olympic-shadow/ |title=Healthy walks in the Olympic shadow |publisher=South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust |date=16 August 2012 |accessdate=1 August 2014}} 9. ^{{cite web|last1=Burluraux |first1=Don |title=North York Moors CAM |url=http://homepage.ntlworld.com/don.burluraux/ |website=North York Moors CAM |accessdate=29 March 2015 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160115193630/http://homepage.ntlworld.com/don.burluraux/ |archivedate=15 January 2016 |df=dmy }} External links
