}}Douglass Houghton Falls (also known as Houghton–Douglas Falls or Douglas Falls or Houghton Falls[1]) is Michigan's tallest waterfall at {{convert|110|ft|m}} from the top where Hammel Creek cascades to its base. It is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula between Laurium and Lake Linden just off Highway M-26. Access to this private waterfall is restricted due to its dangerous geological makeup. The waterfall is situated in a deep gorge that is flanked by sharp loose rock. Multiple deaths have been reported at this location; the most recent one was in September 2011.[2] Douglass Houghton, for whom Douglass Houghton Falls is named, was Michigan's first geologist.[3]

Douglass Houghton Falls is currently projected to open as a Michigan state park. Purchasing has been approved by Rick Snyder and is underway by the State of Michigan.[4]

Some say the Falls was named for two different people; Douglass Houghton and Christopher Columbus Douglass, and that the correct name is Houghton–Douglass Falls.{{citation needed|date=July 2017}} The name can be found both ways.
