Early HistoryFlorida Theological Seminary (FTS) was founded in 1985 by the late Rev. Dr. Harold Shindoll, Ph.D. The seminary inhabited a few different locations in its early days, before settling at its current location on Lakehurst Drive, in south Orlando near Universal Studios. FTS offered several programs in the area of Theology and Bible. In 1993, the Rev. Dr. Bruce W.H. Urich originally came to FTS as a professor. Dr. Urich had a variety of teaching experiences to his credit, which he brought with him to FTS. He also assumed the role of Dean of the University in 1999 under the leadership of Dr. Portigliatti. In 1998, Dr. A. Floralee Shindoll, Ph.D. was chosen president of FTS, following in her husband’s footsteps, and continuing the tradition of FTS. That same year, Dr. Anthony Portigliatti, Ph.D. came to FTS, bringing his vast experience from Argentina and Brazil. In 1999, Dr. Portigliatti was unanimously chosen as president and chancellor of FTS. He bestowed the title of President Emeritus upon Dr. Shindoll, who is still today a pillar of FTS and FCU. It was under the tutelage of Dr. Portigliatti that FCU was born.
