GameduinoThe Gameduino is a game adapter designed for Arduino microcontrollers. The Gameduino is supplied as a stackable shield and has connectors for a VGA monitor and stereo speakers. Gameduino provides an Arduino with graphics and sound facilities similar to those of 1980s arcade machines and is ideal for both gaming and educational use. Gameduino is open-source hardware (BSD license) and all its code is GPL licensed. Main FeaturesGameduino's main features are:
Gameduino hardwareThe Gameduino is supplied as a stackable Arduino 'shield'. On the circuit board are an FPGA chip and a 256kbyte flash memory chip. Communication between the Gameduino and the host is done via. SPI, a Gameduino can therefore be used with any host which has SPI capability. There are two SPI slave devices on the Gameduino board: The Gameduino and the flash memory chip. All Gameduino sound and graphics are generated by the FPGA. When Gameduino is powered on the FPGA's microcode is loaded automatically from the flash memory. By writing new microcode to the flash memory the Gamduino's graphics/sound capabilities can be updated by the user, or even completely replaced. Approximately 96kB of the flash memory is unused and may be used by games to store graphics or sound data. GraphicsSoundReferencesExternal links
