Koroush Benyamin was born in Urmiah (Iran), to an intellectual family from Sporghan. His mother “rabi Marganita” a literate and knowledgeable woman who was an instructor of Assyrian language in Sporghan. His brother ,“Aprim Avimalk Benyamin”, also an accomplished poet and activist who died in Kirkuk (Iraq) in 1990. Koroush Benyamin started his education at the American school and attended public high school in Urmiah. He continued and succeeded his academic education at the college of teachers and started his career in public schools as a teacher. After awhile he moved to Tehran to devote his life to write and teach. With his observant and conscious mind, he realized the lack of consistency and an adequate source of teaching, largely in Assyrian schools. The finding mostly motivated him to create an efficient method and source of teaching. As a result , six books were written and published by him for students in various grades. In addition, he published one educational book for adults and two short stories (“Animal’s judgement” and “The great rider”) which are included in the list of the triumphs of our literature. His articles were published in many newspapers, particular the “ Ashour” newspaper. He was an intellectual and a purposive activist, a gentle and a kind person. Koroush Benyamin was the founder of the Assyrian youth centre for cultural activities in collaboration with “ Issa Benyamin, Elia Maryousef, Wilson Betmannsour and Ashour Moradkhan”. The organization became the most active group in preservation and development of the Assyrian literature, mostly for the published books, magazines and articles, where attracted many young people to join the organization.Koroush Benyamin started his career in 1938 which lasted for 42 years, till his death, he taught and published many books. Today, after more than 50 years, our children are learning the Assyrian language through the same books that we did! He will be remembered as a man of moral integrity and a person who is of value to people. |
