Siddhartha Das

Early life

Siddhartha Das was born in New Delhi to an eminent Indian Artist, Jatin Das, an Oriya Hindu kayastha, and a Gujarati Jain mother Varsha Das who is a gandhian and former director of the National Gandhi Museum. His elder sister is noted Actor and Director Nandita Das.

Education

He received his Bachelor's Honours degree in History from Hindu College (University of Delhi), Course on Exhibition & Museum Design from Domus Academy, Milan, Italy in 2000 and Exhibition Design from (National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad) in 2002.

Career

Educator

Siddhartha Das is a visiting academic faculty at the (National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad); and a cultural consultant to various organisations including UNESCO and a Trustee of J D Centre of Art. He is a Nehru Trust and Charles Wallace Fellow. In 2008 he was awarded the International Young Design Entrepreneur by the (British Council, UK).

Professional Life

Over 12 years Siddhartha Das has led or collaborated on roughly 100 cultural projects in seven countries across four continents, on different aspect of planning, strategies and design for heritage, public, museum and other cultural spaces. The most recent work in India has comprised a series of initiatives involving museums, heritage sites, public art, urban furniture, signage systems, photography and crafts projects.

The (Siddhartha Das) Studio maintains a lean core team that has built a vast network of professionals from across the country and around the world to innovatively strategise and design projects. It blends national with international, rural with urban, and youth with experience. The Studio provides a comprehensive set of skills required to maintain the local flair of the work while still drawing on lessons from the international setting.

The Studio’s most recent work in India involves concept and design strategies for cultural complexes in Bangalore and Gauhati; scenography for the 18th century monument, Jal Mahal, in Jaipur; and the launch of a crafts-based product line that retails in Delhi, London and Zurich.
