Sri Muralidhara Swamiji (born November 8, 1961) often called 'Guruji' (குருஜீ in Tamil, गुरुजी in Devanagari) is a Hindu spiritual leader, writer and television personality from South India.[1] Sri Swamiji is also known for his daily discourses the Raj Network television channel in India. [2]

Early Life

Sri Swamiji was born on the day of Deepavali in 1961 (8th November, 1961), (Tamil year: பிலவ, Tamil Month: ஐப்பசி, Tamil star: ஸ்வாதி, Tamil Day: அமாவாஸ்யை.) His parents were a Tamil Brahmin couple, Sri Rajagopala Iyer and Smt. Savitri, in Manjakuppam, a village in Cuddalore, in Tamilnadu, India.

Career

Philosophy

Sri Swamiji focuses on fostering understanding of the Hindu faith and promoting universal brotherhood. Sri Swamiji advocates that Self-Realization is the ultimate goal of all living-beings and believes in the philosophy of non-dualism, or Advaita.[3] He advocated that Advaita is achieved through devotion, Bhakti, towards the Lord, and that singing the name of the Lord, Nama Kirtan, is the easiest way to perform the Bhatki.[4]

Sti Swamiji's speaking engagements promote the culture and tradition of the Vedas and the Vaidika Dharma and Bharata varsha, while promoting the works of other Hindu leaders.[5] They are centered around societal values and practical principles meant to lead a happy and righteous life in modern society. [6]

Sri Swamiji appeared on the Tamil TV Channel Podhigai on every Thursday at 10:10 pm IST.[7] Sri Swamiji is currently giving discourses in Star Vijay Network television channel in India daily during the morning hours at 7.15 am IST.[8] Sri Swamiji can also be found in "Madhauramurali," a monthly periodical from the mission in Tamil reflecting the ideologies of Sri Swamiji's ideologies.

Temples

A temple for Sri Srinivasa Perumal and Sri Premika Varadan-Madhuri Sakhi (Sri Swamiji’s deity of Lord Krishna is Premika Varadan and Madhuri Sakhi is the form of Radha) was built by Sri Swamiji in Chennai, India.[9] He has also established a mple for Sri Kalyana Srinivasa Perumal at Malaipattu, a village near Chennai. Sri Swamiji has also supported Divya Desams throughout South India.[10]

Organizations

Established on 16 April 1993, by Sri Swamiji, the mission aims at propagating Bhagavata Dharma and to carry out the spiritual and religious activities as ordained in the Shastras of Sanatana Dharma. An ashram outside Chennai, India is also established as a part of the mission’s activities. Sri Swamiji established the Sandeepani Gurukulam Trust in June 1995 to perpetrate learning of the Vedas, and the Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Nama Biksha Kendra on October 20, 1999 at Chennai to propagate the chanting of the Maha Mantra. There are 250 Nama Biksha centers. Sri Swamiji aims to establish centers all over the world.[11]
