{{Userspace draft|source=ArticleWizard|date=August 2011}}The World Muaythai Council, a.k.a 'The WMC', is the authoritative body for regulating the sport of Muaythai Kickboxing in Thailand and its member countries around the world.[1] It works alongside the top sporting authorities of its member countries to regulate all aspects of the art and sport of Muaythai.[1]

History

Established by parliament resolution, the WMC is incorporated by the Royal Thai Government and sanctioned by the Sports Authority of Thailand.[1]

The inaugural meeting of the council was held in 1995 at the United Nations Conference Centre (Bangkok) with representatives of 39 countries in attendance. Currently there are over 120 member countries registered with the WMC.[1]

Council

The role of the Council is to unite all international Muaythai organizations under one regulatory council along with maintaining the expansion of the sport.[1] The WMC works in full accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency. The Council not only enforces fairness and equality in all matches, it is the sole body empowered to sanction championship bouts of a world standard.[1] A championship title holder from a member country is therefore typically bestowed the title; 'WMC Champion' of their respective country, continent or the world.[1]

The Head Office of the WMC is located at the Sports Authority of Thailand Complex in Bangkok, Thailand.[1]
