Introduction

This competition, labelled as an unofficial World Club Championship [1] and sponsored by Zenith Data Systems [2], was played in the summer of 1989 in Miami, Florida. Opponents were Arsenal FC, the English champion, and the best Argentinian team, Independiente[3].

Arsenal became the unofficial World Champion after a difficult 2-1 win at the Joe Robbie (now Sun Life) Stadium. David Rocastle scored two times with the temporary equalizer by Carlos Alfaro Moreno for South-American players.
