}}Edadil Kadın ({{lang-ota|ادادل قادین}}; {{circa}} 1845 – 12 December 1875), meaning "The elegance of the heart",[1] was the third wife of Sultan Abdülaziz of the Ottoman Empire.[2]

Early life

Edadil Kadın was born in 1845 in Adlersky, Sochi, North Caucasus. She was a member of Abkhazian princely family, Aredba. Her father was Prince Tandal Bey Aredba, and her mother was Aublaa Hanım.{{sfn|Açba|2007|p=86}} She had a younger brother named Aslan Bey.{{sfn|Açba|2007|p=87}}

She had been brought to Istanbul as a young child, and was entrusted to the imperial harem. She was then placed in the service of Sultan Abdülaziz's mother Pertevniyal Sultan, where her name according to the custom of the Ottoman court was changed to Edadil.{{sfn|Açba|2007|p=87}}

Marriage

Edadil married Abdülaziz 1861 in the Dolmabahçe Palace, after his accession to the throne.{{sfn|Açba|2007|p=87}} She was given the title of "Üçüncü Kadın".{{sfn|Uluçay|2011|p=233}} A year after the marriage, in 1862, she gave birth to her first child, a son, Şehzade Mahmud Celaleddin.[3] On 21 September 1866, she gave birth to her second child, a daughter, Emine Sultan,{{sfn|Uluçay|2011|p=235}} who died on 23 August 1867.[4]

Death

Edadil died on 12 December 1875[5] in Dolmabahçe Palace, a year before her Abdülaziz's death, and was buried in the mausoleum of Sultan Mahmud II, located at Divan Yolu street.{{sfn|Açba|2007|p=87}}{{sfn|Uluçay|2011|p=233}}{{sfn|Sakaoğlu|2008|p=641}}
