The municipality has a population of {{formatnum:{{Infobox Finnish Municipality/population count|Pöytyä}}}} ({{#time: j F Y|{{Infobox Finnish Municipality/population count|sourcedate}}}}) and covers an area of {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish Municipality/total area|Pöytyä}}|km2}} of which {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish Municipality/waters area|Pöytyä}}|km2|abbr=on}} is water. The population density is {{convert|{{Infobox Finnish Municipality/population density|Pöytyä|round=2}}|PD/km2}}. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The neighbouring municipality of Karinainen was merged into Pöytyä in the beginning of 2005. The neighbouring municipality of Yläne was merged into Pöytyä in the beginning of 2009.
