Located in the Sawtooth Wilderness of Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Blaine County, it is {{convert|1.2|mi|abbr=on}} south-southeast of Peak 10,052, its line parent. El Capitan is {{convert|1.9|mi|km|abbr=on}} east of Snowyside Peak and {{convert|1.4|mi|km|abbr=on}} west of McDonald Peak.
