The R59 is a freeway from the Alberton Reading Interchange until just after the R57 Junction in Vanderbijlpark. RouteFree StateThe R59 begins as a t-junction with the R64 near Dealesville. It heads north to the town of Hertzogville where the R708 intersects the road as a t-junction. North of the town it turns right and resumes its journey north-east to Hoopstad where on the southerly outskirts where it t-junctions with the R700. It crosses the Vet River into the town where it t-junctions and becomes cosigned with the R34 and then loops to the north of the town and heads east briefly before resuming its journey north-east and eventually crosses the R505 continuing past Misgunst to Bothaville where the R30 intersects and consigns. As it passes through Bothasville, the R727 t-junctions the route. At a four-way intersection, the R30 continues north, the R504 heads west and the R59 continues north-east passing Viljoenskroon and crossing over the R76 to its north. Continuing north-east, the R501 has its beginning as a t-junction on this road which heads to Vredefort passing the town from the north-west as a ring-road. It enters Parys from the south-west as the towns main street looping and leaving to the north-east where after some distance intersects the N1 freeway, crossing over it. It continues east-north-east until it reaches Sasolburg's northern suburbs and a large interchange with the R57. It crosses over the R57 and continues north-east where it crosses an interchange with Ascot-on-Vaal Road on the outskirts of Vanderbijlpark before crossing the Vaal River into Gauteng province as the Sybrand van Niekerk Freeway. It is a freeway for its remainder. GautengAfter crossing the Vaal, it interchanges with and crosses the R42 east of Sharpeville and south-west of Vereeniging Central (North eastbound and south westbound only), before crossing the R28 from Sebokeng. It continues north and meets the R54 and R42 to the Three Rivers East suburb (only accessible from the side of cars going north) and R82 to Vereeniging (only accessible from the side of cars going south) at an interchange close to Acron Park. Two further interchanges follow with the M61 as it continues north-east passing to the west of Meyerton intersecting the R551. It continues north-east past Henley on Klip intersecting the R557. It continues north passing west of Garthdale and crosses the R550 and then over the Klip River. Its next major interchange is with Klip River Drive outside Brakendown and Thokoza. It continues into Brakenhurst, Alberton crossing the R554 (Swartkoppies Road) and then Michelle Avenue in Meyersdal. After a short distance, it crosses the N12 Southern Bypass - Reading Interchange (Johannesburg Ring Road) and then ends as a t-junction with the M38 in Tulisa Park, the southern suburbs of Johannesburg.
