It is also treated as a subspecies of Equisetum ramosissimum under the name E. ramosissimum subsp. debile. It is locally known as {{lang-ne|सिमे झार||translit=Sime jhar}} and {{lang|cdm|योफूली}} translit. {{transl|cdm|Yophuli}} in Nepal.[1] DescriptionEquisetum debile is a spore-bearing herb with erect, cylindrical, hollow and stem. Branches are long, slender, two or three in whorl, ribbed, nodes encircled by a tight sheath of connate scale like leaves. It has oblong strobilus at the end of branches.[1]Phenology and reproductionEquisetum debile vegetatively propagates by the splitting of rhizome. Spore formation occurs in June to July.[1] After dispersal, spores germinate within a few days at humid condition. Gametophytes reproduce protogynous reproduction i.e., formation of female gamete before male one.[2]Ecology and distributionEquisetum debile is distributed in South East Asia, Southern China, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. In Nepal, it is found in moist places of the country at 2600 m.[1]UsesEquisetum debile is used in traditional medicine in Nepal. It is applied to treat burns, scabies, malarial fever, gonorrhea, dislocated bones, and liver and chest complaints.[1] There is insufficient scientific evidence for the effectiveness of Equisetum plants as a medicine to treat any human condition.[3][4][5]References1. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite book|last1=Manandhar|first1=Narayan P.|title=Plants and People of Nepal|date=2002|publisher=Timber Press|location=Portland, Oregon, USA|isbn=978-0881925272|pages=220}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q20686795}}2. ^{{cite web|last1=Kumar |first1=Punam |title=Pteridophytes structure and reproduction |url=http://www.peoi.org/Courses/Coursesen/bot/temp/bot17t95.html |website=www.peoi.org |accessdate=December 16, 2014 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20141216073109/http://www.peoi.org/Courses/Coursesen/bot/temp/bot17t95.html |archivedate=December 16, 2014 |df= }} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.drugs.com/npp/horsetail.html|title=Horsetail|date=11 June 2018|publisher=Drugs.com|accessdate=19 August 2018}} 4. ^{{cite journal|author1=Dragos|first1=D|last2=Gilca|first2=M|last3=Gaman|first3=L|last4=Vlad|first4=A|last5=Iosif|first5=L|last6=Stoian|first6=I|last7=Lupescu|first7=O|year=2017|title=Phytomedicine in Joint Disorders|journal=Nutrients|volume=9|issue=1|pages=70|doi=10.3390/nu9010070|pmid=28275210|pmc=5295114}} 5. ^{{Cite journal|year=2009|title=Scientific opinion on the substantiation of health claims related to Equisetum arvense L. and invigoration of the body (ID 2437), maintenance of skin (ID 2438), maintenance of hair (ID 2438), maintenance of bone (ID 2439), and maintenance or achievement of a normal body weight (ID 2783) pursuant to Article 13 of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006|journal=EFSA Journal|publisher=European Food Safety Authority|volume=7|issue=10|pages=1289|doi=10.2903/j.efsa.2009.1289}} 1 : Equisetum |
