Smith was elected Prosecuting Attorney in 2004 and re-elected in 2008.[3] Smith was elected to a third term in 2012. Smith gained notoriety in 2007 due to the Tara Grant murder case.[4] Smith left an angry voice mail on Republican James Perna's voice mail.
