He represented Surrey in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1966 to 1975 and from 1979 to 1983 as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Manchester and worked briefly as teacher before joining the British Army. Hall came to Canada in 1957 and worked as a textile wholesaler. He later worked for the Hudson's Bay Company wholesale division. In 1963, he was named provincial secretary for the NDP in British Columbia. He lived in Surrey.[1] Hall was defeated when he ran for reelection to the provincial assembly in 1975, when he lost to Bill Vander Zalm, and in 1983.[2] He served in the provincial cabinet as Provincial Secretary. In 1974, Hall introduced a bill to establish British Columbia Day as a public holiday in the province.[3] He died of a heart attack in 1987. He was 57.[4] References1. ^{{cite book |title=Growth of the N.D.P. in B.C., 1900-1970: 81 political biographies |last=Webster |first=Daisy |year=1970}} {{Barrett Ministry}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Hall, Ernest}}{{BritishColumbia-politician-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.elections.bc.ca/docs/rpt/1871-1986_ElectoralHistoryofBC.pdf |title=Electoral History of British Columbia, 1871-1986 |publisher=Elections BC |accessdate=2011-07-27}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.protocol.gov.bc.ca/protocol/prgs/FAQs/InterestingFacts.htm |title=Interesting Facts |publisher=Government of British Columbia |accessdate=2011-07-27}} 4. ^[https://web.archive.org/web/20131202231311/http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy/DisplayGenealogyImage?k=8cf060f8-03d2-42ab-bfbd-73b38af9dc61 Ernest Hall Department of Health Form] 11 : 1929 births|1987 deaths|British Columbia New Democratic Party MLAs|Businesspeople in textiles|Canadian schoolteachers|English emigrants to Canada|Hudson's Bay Company people|Members of the Executive Council of British Columbia|People from Stretford|20th-century British Army personnel|20th-century Canadian politicians |
