It was completed in 1908 and is a six-story skyscraper building, with a basement and penthouse in the Classical Revival style. The top floor once featured a Roof Garden. The exterior is faced in Indiana limestone and yellow hard face brick, with terra cotta decorative details.[3] In 1918 when the Boy Scouts were founded in Chester County the Farmers and Mechanics Building became their headquarters. During World War II, it was used to watch for German planes.[1] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is located in the West Chester Downtown Historic District.[2] References1. ^1 {{cite web|last=Jones|first=Jim|title=Timeline of West Chester History|url=http://courses.wcupa.edu/jones/his480/notes/timeline.htm|work=West Chester University|accessdate=30 April 2012}} {{West Chester, Pennsylvania}}{{National Register of Historic Places in Pennsylvania}}2. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} 3. ^{{cite web| url = https://www.dot7.state.pa.us/ce/SelectWelcome.asp| title = National Historic Landmarks & National Register of Historic Places in Pennsylvania| publisher = CRGIS: Cultural Resources Geographic Information System| format = Searchable database}} Note: This includes {{cite web| url = {{NRHP-PA|H000673_01H.pdf}}| title = National Register of Historic Places Inventory Nomination Form: Farmers and Mechanics Trust Company Building | accessdate = 2012-11-01| author = Carole H.
