The teams were grouped into two pools of four teams each for a round-robin preliminary round. All teams will advance to an eight team single elimination bracket.[2] Argentina are the defending champions from the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, defeating Canada, 3–1 in the final. The winner of this tournament, if not already qualified, will qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.[3] QualificationA total of eight men's teams qualified to compete at the games. The top two teams at the South American and Central American and Caribbean Games qualified for the tournament. The host nation (Canada) automatically qualified as well. The remaining three spots were given to the three best teams from the 2013 Pan American Cup that had not qualified yet. This happened after the two qualification tournaments in 2014 were played. Each nation may enter one team (16 athletes per team).[4][5] Summary
PoolsPools were based on the world rankings as of January 21, 2015. Teams were placed into pools using the serpentine system. Teams ranked 1, 4, 5 and 8 would be in Pool A, while teams ranked 2, 3, 6 and 7 would be in Pool B.[6] Rankings are listed in parenthesis.

Competition formatIn the first round of the competition, teams were divided into two pools of four teams, and play followed round robin format with each of the teams playing all other teams in the pool once. Teams were awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss.[2] Following the completion of the pool games, all eight teams advanced to a single elimination round consisting of four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games, and the bronze and gold medal matches. Losing teams competed in classification matches to determine their ranking in the tournament. A penalty stroke competition took place, if a classification match ended in a draw, to determine a winner.[2] All games were played in four 15 minute quarters.[2] ResultsThe official schedule was revealed on February 18, 2015.[7] All times are Eastern Daylight Time (UTC−4)Preliminary roundPool A{{Pool A Men's Field hockey at the 2015 Pan American Games}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A1}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A2}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A3}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A4}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A5}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game A6}} Pool B{{Pool B Men's Field hockey at the 2015 Pan American Games}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B1}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B2}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B3}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B4}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B5}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey game B6}} Medal round{{Round8-with third|July 21 — Toronto|{{fh|ARG}}|12|{{fh|MEX}}|0 |July 21 — Toronto|{{fh|CHI}}|6|{{fh|CUB}}|2 |July 21 — Toronto|{{fh|USA}}|1 (1)|{{fh|BRA}}|1 (3) |July 21 — Toronto|{{fh|CAN}}|3|{{Nowrap|{{fh|TRI}}}}|0 |July 23 — Toronto|{{fh|ARG}}|6 |{{fh|CHI}}|0 |July 23 — Toronto|{{fh|BRA}}|0 (3) |{{fh|CAN}}|0 (5) |July 25 — Toronto|{{fh|ARG}} |3|{{fh|CAN}}| 0 |July 25 — Toronto|{{fh|CHI}} | 4|{{fh|BRA}}|1 }} Quarterfinals{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey quarterfinal 1}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey quarterfinal 2}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey quarterfinal 3}} {{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey quarterfinal 4}} Semifinals{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey semifinal 1}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey semifinal 2}} Bronze medal match{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey bronze medal match}}Gold medal match{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey gold medal match}}Classification round{{Round4-with third |RD1=Semifinals|RD2=Fifth place |Consol=Seventh place |July 23 — Toronto|{{fh|MEX}}|3 |{{fh|CUB}}|1 |July 23 — Toronto|{{fh|USA}}|2 |{{Nowrap|{{fh|TRI}}}}|1 |July 25 — Toronto|{{fh|MEX}} |2 |{{fh|USA}} |6 |July 25 — Toronto|{{fh|CUB}} |0 |{{Nowrap|{{fh|TRI}}}} |13 }} Semifinals{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey classification semifinal 1}}{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey classification semifinal 2}} Seventh medal match{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey seventh place match}}Fifth place match{{2015 Pan American Games men's field hockey fifth place match}}Final standings
