|name=Filmax International |logo=Filmax International Logo.jpg |services=Film production, film distribution |location=Barcelona |founded=1951 |founder=Alfredo Talarewitz }}Filmax International is a Catalan motion picture production company and film distributor based in Barcelona, and one of the Spain's most important integrated film and television groups.[1] It produced the REC horror series, and owns the Nirvana Films and New World Films International distributors and the Fantastic Factory label, dedicated to create fantasy films in the horror, science fiction and action genres.[2] At different times Filmax has entered into distribution agreements with Paramount, Lauren Films, Lakeshore, Summit, Fintage House, Nulmage, Annapurna and Freeway.[1] HistoryThe company originated in 1951 created by Alfredo Talarewitz, and in 1953 started working as a film distributor of Hollywood movies.[1][3] From 1955 onwards it collaborated with Spanish producer "Balcázar Producciones Cinematográficas". The Filmax trademark was acquired in 1987 by Julio Fernández.
