Plot summaryStephanie's friend Lula witnesses the murder (by decapitation) of a celebrity chef. When the chef's sponsors offer a $1 million reward for the capture of the killers, Lula decides to enter an upcoming BBQ cook-off contest, deciding that the most likely suspect is a rival chef. Despite her complete lack of culinary skills, she is joined by Stephanie's Grandma Mazur, their friend Connie Rosoli, and a reluctant Stephanie. Several of Ranger's clients' homes have been burglarized, leading him to suspect one of his men. He asks Stephanie to resume her job at Rangeman, as a pretext for snooping around. SynopsisLula bursts into the bail bonds office, excitedly saying she witnessed a murder. Although Stephanie and her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Detective Joe Morelli, are currently "off," she reluctantly calls him to report the crime. While Lula is being questioned at the police station, the victim's severed head is recovered and identified as belonging to Stanley Chipotle, a celebrity chef who came to Trenton for a BBQ cook-off contest. {{2000s-crime-novel-stub}}{{Stephanie Plum}}External links
