}}Frankie Bones (real name Frank Mitchell; born 1966) is an American techno house music disc jockey and music producer from Brooklyn, New York City. He is recognized as one of the ambassadors of rave culture. "Bones" brought the rave culture to the United States after performing in the United Kingdom in 1989.[1] His brother, Adam "X" Mitchell is also a Hard Techno DJ Music Producer living in Germany.

Early life

Music Producer and DJ Frankie "Bones" Mitchell, is the founder of North American rave culture, and the creator of P.L.U.R. (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect).

At an early age his father was murdered, and left his entire vinyl record collection to Frankie. After burying his father in Long Island, New York, Frankie was stricken with grief.[2] He emmerssed himself in urban New York bfreestyle music and street art to express himself. This form of positive expression, inspired Frankie to evolve into the world legendary DJ Bones and graffiti artist.

In August 26, 1989, Frankie "Bones" Mitchell was given an opportunity to visit England. While there he attended the first electronic music concert, known known as a rave.

Becoming DJ Bones

Later on, after he had begun producing records, he was offered a gig to play for 5,000 people in England called "Energy" on the strength of his compositions.[3] As the event started on August 26, 1989, the projected attendance had gone through the roof and Frankie played to 25,000 people while the sun came up.[4]

Taking inspiration from the party, Frankie took to forming his own event in Brooklyn in the form of his series of Storm Raves.[5][6][7]

The Storm Raves events began with only a few hundred people in attendance growing to over thousands where the likes of Josh Wink, Doc Martin, Sven Väth, The Horrorist, DJ Keoki and Richie Hawtin were able to launch their performances into international careers.[8][9][10]

Frankie and his brother, Adam X, are credited with being the creators of the Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect (PLUR) ideology; formed as a response to the immense pressures living in NYC at the time, Frankie would repeatedly exclaim the phrase during his sets as a sort of statement for revolutionary change.

Berlin's Love Parade, which had been generally considered to have been the largest techno festival in the world at the time, named its 1991 and 1992 Parades after well-known compositions by Frankie Bones – "The Future is Ours" in 1991 and "My House is Your House (And Your House is Mine)" in 1992.

His brother, Adam X, is also a techno DJ and producer,[11] and their colleague Heather Heart is a DJ and music writer/zine maker who helped create the community for underground techno music in New York and Beyond. Frankie Bones, Adam X, Heather Heart and others are associated with the record label Sonic Groove. He co-owned, with Adam and Heather, a record store with the same name as his label at 41 Carmine St in New York City, where it had relocated to from a Brooklyn location in 1995. The shop closed in 2004.[12]
