Fred W. Heard is an American minister, politician, and a co-owner of Best Hands.[1]

Biography

Heard was born on September 9, 1940 in Prineville, Oregon and attended elementary and high school in Klamath Falls. He attended University of Oregon college from which he received his bachelor's degree in education and later on got his master's in secondary education from Southern Oregon University. He also got Master of Divinity degree from Church Divinity School of Pacific of Berkeley, California and also completed Clinical pastoral education at the Oregon State Hospitals Forensics Unit. In addition to all of the degrees he also served at the Congregational church in the same place where he attended school. In January 2009 he was appointed to serve as a rector and later an associate rector at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Menlo Park, California.[1] Heard is currently Vicar of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dallas Or.[2]

Career

His first job was a teacher at the Klamath Union High School and later on got a position as an assistant professor at the Oregon Institute of Technology in the same place. He taught many subjects including literature and social studies in schools and colleges until he decided to run for the State Legislature in 1968. As time went by he was promoted to the State Representative and later became a senator. He also was a majority leader for three consecutive sessions and became President of the Senate as a result of it for one session. He decided to give up on a senate seat appointed governor Victor Atiyeh. Over the years he served as a branch manager of the Bernard Haldane Associates and was a member of both Menlo Park's and Salem's Kiwanis Club. Currently he is a member of the Cambria Lions Club, is active in United Way cancer campaigns, and is a member of commission on ministry at the El Camino Real and is a Trustee for the School for Deacons.[1]

Heard was succeeded in the Senate by Peter M. Brockman.

Personal life

Since 1966 he has been married to Adair and together they had a son Frederick, and twin daughters Heather and Robin.[1]
