In 1840 Dr. Mitchell operated a large plantation with more than 100 slaves. The house is a rectangular, two-story, hip-roofed residence. During the Federal occupation of Edisto Island beginning in 1862, Colonel Moore of the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry used Frogmore as his headquarters.[4] Frogmore was listed in the National Register May 5, 1987.[5] References1. ^{{NRISref|2010a}} {{National Register of Historic Places in South Carolina}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Frogmore}}{{CharlestonCountySC-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|title=Historic Houses of South Carolina|year=1921|publisher=J.B.
