He played at club level for Salford, Wigan (Heritage № 836),[3] and Wakefield Trinity (Heritage № 1020), as a {{rlp|wg|ce}}, or {{rlp|so}}, i.e. number 2 or 5, 3 or 4, or 6. Playing careerByrne started his career at Salford.
