None of these characters is exclusive, however, and cannot be considered a synapomorphy of the group. Nevertheless, phylogenetic studies have revealed that Geoplaninae is indeed a monophyletic group.[1][4][5] GeneraCurrently the land planarians in the subfamily Geoplaninae are grouped in 24 genera:[2]
