Elmore (1880 – 1 July 1916) was an English professional football forward who played in the Football League for Glossop, Blackpool and West Bromwich Albion.[1] He also played in the Scottish League for St Mirren and Partick Thistle and is regarded as Altrincham's 'first star player'.[2] Personal lifeElmore worked in the salt trade in Northwich.[2] In September 1914, one month after Britain's entry into the First World War, he enlisted in the Royal Scots.[2] Elmore was deployed on the Western Front in January 1916 and was serving as a lance corporal when he was killed on the first day of the Somme later that year.[2] He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.[3] HonoursWitton Albion
