Ewbank's batting and bowling styles are unknown. Born at Alipore in the British Raj, Ewbank made his debut in first-class cricket for a combined Gentlemen of Kent and Surrey team against the Gentlemen of England in 1855 at Lord's.[1] He later played first-class cricket for Sussex, making three appearances in 1857 against the Marylebone Cricket Club, Surrey, and Kent, before making a final appearance in 1860 against the Marylebone Cricket Club.[1] In his five appearances in first-class cricket, Ewbank scored just 10 runs from ten innings, with a high score of 6.[2] Ewbank served in the British Indian Army in the Raj, taking part in the Indian Mutiny (1857—58) and its aftermath. He was still serving in the Raj in 1862, as a lieutenant in the Madras Artillery.[3] Between 1862 and 1868, Ewbank served in the Bengal Regiment, though by 1868 he was serving as a second—captain in the Royal Artillery.[4] Ten years later he was still serving in the Royal Artillery, achieving the rank of major.[5] He retired from military service in 1882.[6] He died at West Norwood, Surrey on 30 April 1885. His brother, Christopher, also played first-class cricket. Ewbank's previously undiscovered biography The Ewbank Enquiry was published in 2012.[7] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/36/36775/First-Class_Matches.html|title=First-Class Matches played by George Ewbank|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=8 August 2013}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/36/36775/36775.html|title=Player profile: George Ewbank|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=8 August 2013}} 3. ^{{London Gazette |issue=22621 |date=29 April 1862 |page=2234 }} 4. ^{{London Gazette |issue=23379 |date=15 May 1868 |page=2804 }} 5. ^{{London Gazette |issue=24664 |date=31 December 1878 |page=7430 }} 6. ^{{London Gazette |issue=25145 |date=8 September 1882 |page=4176 }} 7. ^{{cite book|last=Allen|first=David Rayvern|title=The Ewbank Enquiry|date=25 March 2012|publisher=Sportspages UK Ltd|location=Farnham|isbn=0957189109}} External links
