A number of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.[2] He was born in London, England in 1866. He was a student in public schools of St. Louis, Missouri and then of Washington University of St. Louis's manual training school, graduating in 1884. He taught mechanical drawing in Toledo, Ohio, during 1885 to 1892, during which time he became superintendent of the Scott Manual Training School. He partnered in the architecture firm Mills & Wachter from 1892 to 1897, then worked as an individual architect for 15 more years. In 1912 he became head partner of the firm Mills, Rhines, Bellman & Nordhoff.[1] He worked on projects across the country, as far away as Boston and San Francisco.[1] Works include (with attribution):
