Synopsis

G'kar, seeking answers to what happened to the Narn base in Quadrant 37, flies there himself with escort pilots; they are attacked by alien ships, and G'kar's escorts sacrifice themselves so that G'kar can alert the homeworld. G'kar returns to Babylon 5 and discovers the ships match those drawn in their religious texts, and an ancient evil that originated from the planet Z'ha'dum at the end of known space. G'kar addresses the Babylon 5 council to state that while the Narn government does not share his concerns, they have sent a ship to Z'ha'dum to scan it for life and return immediately, with the ship to arrive within a day. Mollari meets with Morden and mentions G'kar's plan to him. When the Narn ship arrives, a much larger alien ship is waiting for them and quickly destroys the ship. The Narn homeworld believes the destruction was engine failure, but G'kar fears the ship was attacked immediately, meaning someone on the Council must have notified this alien ship ahead of time; G'kar stares at Mollari but dismisses it. G'kar still warns Na'toth that everything has now changed.

Dr. Franklin asks Sheridan for permission to use the alien healing machine to try to revive Garibaldi, as all other treatment options have failed. Sheridan agrees, but only if they share in giving part of their life energy to help. Garibaldi soon recovers, but cannot recall the full events before he was shot. Garibaldi's aide, who actually was the one that shot him, prepares to kill Garibaldi if he can recall this. Garibaldi calls for Talia Winters, the station's telepath, to help him recall his memories. Talia is able to help Garibaldi discover his aide behind the shooting, and the aide is put into the brig. Garibaldi questions his aide for who is responsible, asking him if it was the Home Guard. The aide says that there are much bigger forces in play, and when Garibaldi leaves, his aide salutes him with the Psi-Corps greeting. Sheridan is ordered by President Clark to send the aide and all evidence against him back to Earth. Ivanova discovers that after they shipped out the aide on a prison ship, he was transferred supposedly to another Earth Force ship but without any registered markings, and thus no longer traceable.

Sheridan meets his sister Elizabeth (Liz) who has come to visit. Liz tries to help Sheridan talk about the death of his wife Anne two years prior. Sheridan takes the blame for her death in the destruction of the starship Icarus on himself - they had been planning to go on a trip, but his Earth Alliance workload forced him to reschedule it, during which Anne opted to go with the Icarus to discover the remains of an ancient alien city on a distance planet. Liz gives him a data crystal with Anne's last message to her, revealing that Anne was already preparing to leave on the Icarus before Sheridan had to reschedule, which helps Sheridan relieve himself of his guilt.

Delenn finally emerges from her cocoon, but weak and unsure of what she has become. Lennier calls for Dr. Franklin's help, finding that her body has been covered in scales, and she has no idea of what she has become. During a meeting of the Council, Lennier introduces Delenn, who has recovered from her ordeal, her body clear of the scales and revealing she has become a human-Minbari hybrid. She explains that she underwent this transformation to help as a bridge between humans and Minbari and avoid any threat of another war.
