The Giles G-200 is an American aerobatic homebuilt aircraft that was produced by AkroTech Aviation of Scappoose, Oregon. When it was available the aircraft was supplied as a complete ready-to-fly-aircraft or a kit for amateur construction. AkroTech Aviation went out of business and the design is no longer in production.[1][2]

Design and development

The G-200 features a cantilever low-wing, a single-seat enclosed cockpit under a bubble canopy, fixed conventional landing gear with wheel pants and a single engine in tractor configuration.[1]

The aircraft is made from composites. Its {{convert|20.00|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} span wing employs a Mort airfoil, has full-span ailerons but no flaps and a wing area of {{convert|75.00|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}. The cabin width is {{convert|23|in|cm|abbr=on}} and has provisions for pilots from {{convert|61|in|cm|abbr=on}} in height and {{convert|100|lb|kg|abbr=on}} to {{convert|77|in|cm|abbr=on}} and {{convert|245|lb|kg|abbr=on}}. When the aircraft was in production custom cockpit sizes were also available as options.[1]

The G-200's acceptable installed power range is {{convert|150|to|220|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} and the standard engine used is the {{convert|200|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} Lycoming IO-360 powerplant.[1][3]

The G-200 has an empty weight of {{convert|750|lb|kg|abbr=on}} and a gross weight of {{convert|1150|lb|kg|abbr=on}}, giving a useful load of {{convert|400|lb|kg|abbr=on}}. With full fuel of {{convert|36|u.s.gal}} the payload is {{convert|184|lb|kg|abbr=on}}.[1]

The manufacturer estimates the construction time from the supplied quick-build kit as 1000 hours.[1]

Operational history

By 1998 the company reported that 26 kits had been sold and one aircraft was flying.[1]

In December 2013 ten examples were registered in the United States with the Federal Aviation Administration, with a further two no longer registered.[4] There was one G-200 registered with Transport Canada.[5]

Pilot Mike Goulian described flying the G-200:
