He wrote, directed and acted in a film called The Limelight (2012).[4][5][6][7] He sold the rights to the script in 2001, though the film initially fell through due to financing problems and reverted to him.[8] It is the story of a comedian named Gary Shand, trying to make a career of his avocation while revealing his personal struggles with addictions. The low-budget work has been characterized as a "black comedy."[8][9] One review said it was an uneven mess ("more miss than hit") with an unblinking and unremitting downbeat portrayal of its subject.[10]Other reviews stated that it was "part tear-jerker, part life-affirming comedy".[11] On 21 May 2012, The Limelight was a hit at The London Independent Film Festival where it sold out and was a featured film.[12] He has announced his intention to stand for parliament in the 2015 elections.[13] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.laughinghorsecomedy.co.uk/bookingagency/glen.htm |title=Glenn Maney |publisher=Laughing Horse Booking Agency |accessdate=20 November 2013}} 2. ^National Liberal Party webpage 3. ^National Liberal Party article by subject 4. ^[https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2378521/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_1 IMDB entry, The Limelight (2012)] 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://film.britishcouncil.org/the-limelight1 |title=The Limelight |work=British Council Films Directory |publisher=British Council Films |date=18 June 2012 |accessdate=4 December 2013}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.moviefarm.co.uk/2012/07/26/the-limelight-2012-movie-review/ |date=26 July 2012 |first1=David |last1=Pratt |title=Reviews The Limelight (2012) Movie Review |publisher=moviefarm.co.uk |accessdate=20 November 2013}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.comedychords.com/news/comedy-news/movie-preview-the-limelight/ |title=Movie Review {{ndash}} The Limelight |date=11 May 2012 |first1=Howard |last1=Gorman |publisher=ComedyChords.com |accessdate=3 December 2013}} 8. ^1 {{cite newspaper |url=http://www.comedy.co.uk/guide/film/the_limelight/about/ |title=About 'The Limelight' |newspaper=British Comedy Guide |accessdate=3 December 2013}} 9. ^{{cite news |url=http://aidyreviews.net/the-limelight-review/ |title=Gary Shand.
