The specific epithet {{lang|la|laxiflora}} is from the Latin meaning "loose flowers", referring to the arrangement of the flowers.[2]DescriptionGluta laxiflora grows as a tree up to {{convert|20|m|-1}} tall with a trunk diameter of up to {{convert|30|cm|0|abbr=on}}. Its dark grey bark is scaly. The large leaves measure up to {{convert|19.5|cm|0|abbr=on}} long. The ellipsoid fruits measure up to {{convert|9|cm|in|0|abbr=on}} long and are coloured brown or reddish brown.[2]Distribution and habitatGluta laxiflora is endemic to Borneo.
