The Granada Theatre was listed as a National Historic Site of Canada on June 5, 1996.[3] The building was designed in the Spanish Revival style by Daniel J. Crighton with its interior decor by prolific theatre decorator Emmanuel Briffa.[1] HistoryIt was built as an atmospheric theatre in 1928 by United Amusement Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of Famous Players. It was inaugurated on January 18, 1929.[4] During the 1970s, the opening of movie theatres in shopping centers in suburban areas are made at the expense of the existing downtown movie theaters. Film showings became increasingly rare.[4] In 1998, the city of Sherbrooke bought the theater in order to protect the building.[5] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.theatregranada.com/le-theatre-granada-lieu-historique |title=Le Théatre Granada, lieu historique patrimonial canadien |year=2012 |publisher=Théâtre Granada |language=French |accessdate=31 July 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130213121123/http://www.theatregranada.com/le-theatre-granada-lieu-historique |archivedate=13 February 2013 |df= }} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.theatregranada.com/capacite-d-accueil |title=Capacité d’accueil |year=2012 |publisher=Théâtre Granada |language=French |accessdate=31 July 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20121109054919/http://www.theatregranada.com/capacite-d-accueil |archivedate=9 November 2012 |df= }} 3. ^{{CRHP|13453|Granada Theatre|31 March 2012}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.theatregranada.com/de-1928-a-1983 |title=Historique De 1928 à 1983 |year=2012 |publisher=Théâtre Granada |language=French |accessdate=31 July 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130213120258/http://www.theatregranada.com/de-1928-a-1983 |archivedate=13 February 2013 |df= }} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.theatregranada.com/de-1984-a-aujourd-hui |title=Historique: De 1984 à aujourd’hui |year=2012 |publisher=Théâtre Granada |language=French |accessdate=31 July 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130213121107/http://www.theatregranada.com/de-1984-a-aujourd-hui |archivedate=13 February 2013 |df= }} External links
