Richard Tucholka (February 9, 1954 - April 27, 2017[1][2]) was a writer, game designer and publisher, best known for his work in the creation of the role-playing games Fringeworthy & Stalking the Night Fantastic.

Career

Tucholka was a pioneering role-playing game designer, comic book publisher, and had branched out as actor, book reviewer, staff writer for Stardate and Stardrive small press magazines, and a science fiction fan. He was an active and notable personality in Michigan science fiction conventions and gaming conventions since 1973 and was a member of the Robert Asprin-inspired Dorsai Irregulars, a worldwide volunteer-run convention support organization. He was also a senior computer technician for a worldwide service supplier of the automotive industry.

Tucholka lived his adult life in Michigan, where he managed Tri Tac Games. His best known role-playing game, Bureau 13, was voted Best Fantasy RPG of 1991 by the RPGA Network at Gen Con. Others works include The Morrow Project with Robert Sadler and Kevin Dockery, Fringeworthy, 2448, and Hardwired Hinterland. Supplements and adventure scenarios he has created include "Invasion U.S.", "Cloistrs", "Rogue 417", "Weirdzone", "Holes", "Hellsnight", "Haunts", "Starcharts", "Hardwired Hinterland", "Bureau 13 EXTREME" "Bureau 13 SPECIAL EDITION", and the DM's Book Of Nasty Tricks & Misfit Magic.

The Tri Tac Micro Games that Tucholka has authored include Monster Squash, Geriatric Wars, Pterroductyl, The Viral Vegetable Wars, Drive By, War on High, Escape From Westerville State, Baby Boomer, Duck Trooper, Beach Bunny Bimbos with Blasters and HOLES, a science fiction miniatures combat game. He created the astronomical systems for the Midnight at the Well of Souls role-playing game by TAG Industries. Like Isaac Asimov, Tucholka became a "Macho Target" - essentially a non-player character - in the game Macho Women with Guns.[3]
