It started in April 2008 as Greenathon 1 and then each year it has been working and raising donations for social causes. It has raised more than 15 crore rupees in previous 3 years.[2] Vikram Chandra CEO of NDTV group, Priyanka Chopra campaign ambassador and Cyrus Broacha have been anchoring for the show, which is an all-day-long program on NDTV channels.[2] The Greenathon helps villages with electricity, cleaning up rivers, recycling plastic bags. There is also an incident where 32–50 kg of plastics found in each stomach of 36 cows.
