Greenathon (aka the NDTV-Toyota Green campaign) is a nationwide campaign to save the environment.[1] The main goal is to spread awareness among people in India to sustain the greenery of Mother Nature. It also helps generate money to spread awareness for various social causes. It is sponsored by Toyota.[2]

It started in April 2008 as Greenathon 1 and then each year it has been working and raising donations for social causes. It has raised more than 15 crore rupees in previous 3 years.[2] Vikram Chandra CEO of NDTV group, Priyanka Chopra campaign ambassador and Cyrus Broacha have been anchoring for the show, which is an all-day-long program on NDTV channels.[2]

The Greenathon helps villages with electricity, cleaning up rivers, recycling plastic bags. There is also an incident where 32–50 kg of plastics found in each stomach of 36 cows. So the India's Supreme Court has shown consideration on total ban of plastic consumptions.[3][4]

Priyanka Chopra started the campaign on 9 April 2014 on the banks of Yamuna River, Agra by cleaning up plastic bags called as "plastic clean-up drive".[5] Like in previous Greenathons this year also the actor Milind Soman has taken up arms for this cause by a 1500 km long marathon from Delhi to Mumbai[6] along with Rahul Bose and few others.[7]

The campaign is being supported by many actors and singers such as Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Yuvraj Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, Ranbir Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Karan Johar, Usha Uthup, Richa Sharma, Bappi Lahiri and others.[8]
